With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve had the privilege of working with women, teens, and children in a variety of settings—including offices, hospitals, schools, correctional facilities, and homes. I’ve provided support both in-person and virtually, helping clients navigate life’s challenges with compassion and practical tools.

My specialty is trauma, and I am trained in EMDR, DBT, play therapy for trauma, and infant mental health. I also bring a unique blend of life coaching and yoga teacher training (completed in 2013) into my practice, offering a holistic approach to healing. I earned my Master of Arts in General Counseling in 2006 and became licensed in 2021—but my journey of learning and growing has never stopped.

Welcome! I’m Chiquita, and I’m so glad you’re here.

On a personal level, my own history of intergenerational trauma has deeply shaped my approach as a therapist. I’ve explored many forms of therapy, practiced countless tools, and read more books than I can count—so you don’t have to (unless you want to!). My journey has been one of deep transformation. From 2009 to 2011, my worldview shifted dramatically as I stepped away from a fundamentalist evangelical background and embraced a spirituality that resonates authentically with my soul. Today, I see myself as curious, open-minded, and reflective, and I bring that same openness to my work with clients.

How I approach counseling

Counseling with me is an active, creative, and collaborative process. It’s a dance between client and clinician, where I provide guidance and support, but real transformation happens with your dedication and willingness to do the work—unless you’re in an active crisis, in which case, we’ll simply focus on getting you to a place of stability and safety.

I believe in learning and practicing skills, not just talking about challenges. Sessions may include artistic activities, worksheets, books, and workbooks, as well as creative problem-solving exercises to help you gain deeper insight and practical tools for healing. I aim to make our time together as sensory-rich as possible, engaging both mind and body in the process.

My approach is goal-oriented, meaning we often begin with the end in mind—unless you’re managing a long-term mental health or life condition that requires ongoing support. No matter your journey, my goal is to provide a safe, comfy, and cozy therapeutic space where you can explore, heal, and grow.

And because healing isn’t just about the mind, I incorporate a spiritual element for those who are open to it, helping you connect with a sense of meaning, purpose, and inner wisdom.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s a deeply personal experience. Together, we’ll find what works best for you, so you can move forward feeling more empowered, whole, and at peace.
